Spring Must-Have: Self Tanner

Spring is just around the corner, and my skin is itching for some Vitamin D exposure! It’s still a little chilly here in Houston, so today I am sharing which products I use to get a natural looking sunless tan. It can be so hard to find a great product that doesn’t give you the dreaded orange look. I have tried so many different self-tanners and have collected a few favorites through my trials and errors. The one I reach for the most is my Fake Bake. It comes in an easy to use kit from Ulta that includes the tanning solution, gloves, and an application mitt. Please do not try to apply this with your bare hands, the mitt is really the key to that airbrushed tan look! What I love about Fake Bake is it doesn’t have an overpowering smell and dries quickly so you don’t have to stand around before you put your clothes back on! It also comes in several forms such as this serum, lotion, mousse, and face tanner. The shade it develops to is a nice golden tan and I’ve used it at my palest and tannest and the color still looks great. Another go-to for me is the coveted St. Tropez. For a while, my local Costco carried a two pack that was the price of one and I was in Heaven! Sadly, Costco doesn’t carry it anymore, but you can always get it at Sephora, Ulta, or Amazon! My last favorite self-tanner is by Loving Tan. This was a company I found on Instagram a while back and I was really impressed with the color payoff. I’m not kidding when I say I really had to get my elbow into it to scrub it off in the end. I used the “Dark” color but it was reaaally dark, so I would recommend the medium shade even if you have a base tan.

I took my “pre-tan” picture in as much natural light as I could since bathroom lighting tends to give a yellow hue. I wanted you to see just how beautiful the tan looks even on paler tones without looking orange! Whenever you are applying the tan to your hands, elbows, knees and ankles, put a little lotion on first so they don’t get too dark! I would highly recommend all of these self-tanners as you can almost always catch me wearing one of them! They’re all super easy to apply and budget friendly. As always, they are much safer than the tanning beds I know I lived in growing up! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me on here or my Instagram! Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy the rest of your week, babes!

I have not tried a self tanner before. Is the mit the most important tool?

It’s crucial for an even application! The mitt really helps blend the solution in so you aren’t streaky!

I’ve never tried a self tanner. I always thought I would make it be uneven. Looks great though!!
